Terms of Service
These are the rules of using Foldy. By signing up at foldy.io, installing the Foldy app, or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't, don't use Foldy.
What Foldy is
Foldy lets you share a folder on your computer with another device, live, over a direct peer-to-peer connection. Both ends run the Foldy app. The sender picks a folder. The recipient enters a six-character code. The folder mounts on the recipient's device as a read-write network drive.
Files do not upload to a Foldy server. Bytes pass directly between your machine and the recipient's machine, encrypted end-to-end. When a direct route fails, Foldy may relay the encrypted traffic through a TURN server we operate, without reading or retaining it.
Operator
Foldy is operated by Koval Dimitrii Viktorovich, a natural person based in Podgorica, Montenegro. In these terms, "Foldy", "we", "us" refer to the operator. You can reach us at hello@foldy.io. Postal address is available on request to any user under applicable law.
Your account
Your email address is your account. We send your invite link to that address, and the link is your way into the beta. Keep your email accurate, and don't share invite links as if they were public download URLs.
You are responsible for what happens on your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts when these terms are broken.
Acceptable use
Don't use Foldy to:
- Distribute material that is illegal in your jurisdiction or the recipient's.
- Distribute malware, phishing kits, child sexual abuse material, stalkerware, or content that infringes someone else's copyright.
- Attack our infrastructure, deliberately exhaust the TURN relay, automate signups, or scrape the service.
- Resell or rebrand the Foldy app or service, or wrap it inside another product without written permission.
Also, don't try to game the paid-tier limits:
- No multi-accounting. Don't create additional Foldy accounts, alternate email addresses, or rotated device identities for the purpose of staying under the device-count ceiling of a lower-priced (or free) tier. One human, one account; if you legitimately need more devices, upgrade the plan.
- No identity laundering. Don't wipe your Ed25519 device key, re-pair, and rejoin solely to dodge a device-count check or a prior suspension. We tie device counts to accounts, not to individual key fingerprints — rotating keys does not reset the count.
- No payment fraud. Don't sign up with a payment instrument that isn't yours, don't issue chargebacks for services already delivered, and don't supply false billing identity. Confirmed fraud terminates the account and forfeits any prepaid balance.
- No misrepresentation. Don't claim to represent an organization, person, or jurisdiction you don't represent in order to get a different tier, a refund, a takedown, or a peer's pin.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules, with or without notice. When we terminate for cause, your subscription record and any active download grants are revoked immediately, and any pre-paid amount on a tier purchased through deception is forfeit.
Beta status and warranty
Foldy is currently in beta. The service may break, pause, lose in-transit transfers, or change without notice. Your source folder is unaffected because Foldy never copies it.
If the law where you live does not allow disclaimers this broad, the disclaimer applies to the maximum extent the law allows.
Your files, your rights
Files you share through Foldy belong to you. We don't claim ownership and we don't get a license to your content.
If you believe content shared through Foldy infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@foldy.io with the elements required by 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3): identification of the work, identification of the infringing material, your contact details, a good-faith statement, an accuracy statement under penalty of perjury, and your signature.
Because Foldy doesn't host files, we cannot take content down directly. Valid notices identify accounts for termination under §04. We terminate accounts of repeat infringers.
Paid plans
Foldy will offer paid plans priced by the number of recipient devices on your share. Plan details and prices will appear at foldy.io/pricing once announced. These Terms apply to paid plans as well. Additional billing-specific terms, including refunds and subscription renewal, will be linked from the checkout page when paid plans go live.
Ending your use of Foldy
You can stop using Foldy at any time. Unsubscribe via the link in any Foldy email or by writing to hello@foldy.io; we delete your subscription record immediately. Uninstall the Foldy app to remove the local identity key.
We can stop providing the service to you at any time, with or without cause, by emailing you at the address on file. When we do, we'll let you know what data we still hold and how to retrieve or delete it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version on this page is always current. For material changes, we email everyone on the list at least seven days before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Foldy after that constitutes acceptance.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Montenegro. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by good-faith negotiation goes to the competent courts of Podgorica.
